Reality checks
Back home and time to face the music but not dance.
Well it was a long fun Spain-cation, but the 20 hours of plane travel back turned out to be a harbinger of less adventurous days to come. The first trouble began with my sister narrowly escaping a fire.
Please pray for her situation! I know I am. Apparently the explosions and flames were right over the bed where she sleeps. Had the fire started later at night, I hate to think what might have happened. All four units in her building now have no power. I hope this will lead her HOA to replace the old electrical and potentially save lives. That would be a positive outcome.
On the upside, my son, daughter-in-law and granddaughter Naalia picked us up at the airport hotel where we crashed after our 22 hour day of travel on Monday.
Before playing hide and seek in the hotel lobby, we had a quick photo with the Great Gatsby party hats the cruise ship gave us.
I can’t really articulate how much I have missed this girl.
In other news, I soon found out that my friend Joanne, who had the bad wreck a year ago, managed to escape from her family home. She fell twice in her first four days of independent living and ended up in the hospital with an infection. The upside is that Adult Protective Services got involved and now she is still independent but with a caregiver. I talked to her on the phone and she sounded quite happy to be her own woman again.
I had to chuckle to think of her at 90 years old sneaking out of the family home when no one was paying attention. Her walker must have been packed to the gills! She had to have arranged for a cab at just the right time, gotten to the airport and had a ticket besides. Not sure if that is how it happened, but if so, we will have to start calling her Bond, J. Bond.
Just a month ago I had taken her to the Columbia Tower Club for her birthday.
I’m so glad we went, because this iconic Seattle club is closing down at the end of the month. For all I know, that may be the last time I see her.
The past 72 hours, I’ve been dusting and cleaning so my allergies would settle back down. I’ve learned that I can toss blankets and pillows in a hot dryer for 10 minutes to get the dust eliminated. That helps a lot!
The cars were taken off their battery protectors, standing water dumped, and patio chairs deployed on the deck. My granddaughter helped pick a couple of flowers from our overgrown yard.
We got two of three doctor appointments set up. Paid a visit to Mr. K, who had gone swimming at the Y earlier. The caregiver said he is sleeping after every meal lately. How she manages to take him out to exercise and shop I don’t know.
Today I slept 10 hours and woke up at 5am, two hours later than the last three days…I am hoping that means I am finally over the jetlag.
Today is the day Jesus died for our sins. It’s “Good Friday,” strange name for a somber time of reflection. A good reminder to be grateful, positive and keep the focus on eternal matters. That’s all easy to say, but my earthly heart is much more eager to celebrate Easter. Something about being a grandparent just makes the holidays so much more exciting. So blessed!
